THROUGH MARCH 8, 1819
PRESIDENT MONROE WAS INAUGURATED HERE IN 1817
ESTABLISHINGTHE CUSTOM OF PUBLIC INAUGURALS

NATIONAL CAPITOL SESQUICENTENNIAL COMMISSION 1950

As you walk toward the main entrance (west side) of the Supreme Court look to the left after the veryfirst set of stairs. This plaque is on the inside (toward the court building) of the balustrade.
