Seated on the left & passing along a lamp symbolizing Knowledge is a male figure representing Europe.
The youth standing beside him with a book represents a spiritual presence, the Wisdom of Europe.
On the far left, Power is represented by a sphere held by a reclining Grecian female.
On the right side of the globe, receiving the Lamp of Knowledge is an Egyptian female representing Africa.
Beside her a youth holds a bundle [the bundle appears to have the head of a feline such as a tiger on it].
To the far right a reclining Egyptian male representing the sleeping Dark Continent leans on a jar from which water is flowing.
On his thigh rests the head of a crocodile whose tail extends behind the youth.
