The Mall
The National Mall is an open-area national park in downtown Washington, D.C. Originally the Mall was a rectangular area from the U.S. Capitol west to the Washington Monument. In 1901 the McMillan Plan nearly doubled its size so it now stretches west to the Lincoln Memorial, north to include the Ellipse & Lafayette Park, & south to include the Tidal Basin & the Jefferson Memorial.
