| The central group of the Grant Memorial with the Washington monument in the background. The Lincoln memorial (mostly the north side) can be seen near the base of the Washington monument. When the mall was designed the intention was that it would be terminated on its west & east ends by monuments to the wartime president (Lincoln) and his general (Grant). |
