Getting Started at HenryMerwinShrady.com

In 1924 the Government Printing Office published a book prepared by the Grant Memorial Commission. Using the links below you can read a small portion of that book -- the parts that actually describe the sculpture -- and follow links revealing exactly the feature the author speaks of. (In some cases you'll see that the author got it wrong.)

Another way to approach this study is to follow the links from the home page. Each photo there has a link beneath it which takes you to a larger version of that picture. As you read the description beside this larger picture, follow the links to see even more detail. Also, notice that each of these picture pages has a link labeled "Full Size" near the top taking you to the original 5.3 megapixel shot and allowing you to study features at very close range.

"The Full Tour" walks you through over 200 pictures. If you followed the links mentioned above you will have seen perhaps half of these. The pictures in the full tour give you views from many different angles but they're ordered in such a way as to help you keep your bearings through-out. (Except the very last few score of pictures which are of random details).
